Journey to Hai Van Pass
Hello, I am JonesGo, a travel expert YouTuber and blogger. Today, I will tell you about my recent trip to Hai Van Pass in Vietnam. This trip will be the first story in my Vietnam adventure series. Many of you may have heard of Hai Van Pass for the first time.
However, this place is famous for its beautiful coastline in Vietnam, and in fact, it was ranked first in an article as the most beautiful scenery. Therefore, it is loved by many pilgrims, foreigners, and even domestic people. That is why I decided to explore this place. Since I have to leave early in the morning, I recommend going to bed early the day before.
A refreshing start at dawn in Hai Van Pass
I woke up early in the morning, got ready, and filled up my motorcycle with gas. It was still early before the sun rose, and the morning birdsong was everywhere. I could see the beautiful beach and mountains along the coastline to the side, and I could feel the vibrant scenery of the sun rising. Above all, the fresh air I felt on the way to the mountain was really refreshing. From this moment on, I had a feeling that this was going to be a special trip. The road was quiet, and the feeling of the cold morning air brushing my face was very vivid.
The Hidden History of Hai Van Pass
Upon arriving at Hai Van Pass, I learned about its history. Hai Van Pass was used as an important strategic location during the Vietnam War, and many battles took place here. In ancient times, it was the castle of the kings of Hue, the border of the Champa Kingdom starting from Da Nang, and a stronghold for defense.
In modern times, it was a fierce battleground between the French and Vietnamese armies, and most recently, when Vietnam was divided into the South and the North due to ideological conflicts, it was the site of another important battle, so it was not only a very important military stronghold, but also a spectacular view of beautiful mountains and cliffs along the coast.
In addition, this area served as a trade route, and has been a transportation hub for the locals for a long time. And even now, development is restricted, so I felt that it is a place where unique nature is preserved. Knowing this historical background made the scenery of the pass more meaningful. After looking around, you should fill your stomach, right? Let's go eat! I found a restaurant with a really good location here!
A special breakfast at the top of Hai Van Pass
The breakfast I had after arriving at the top of the mountain was truly an unforgettable experience. Ramen and the local specialty, salt coffee. You can't find it anywhere else. The name is also unique, right? And blueberry smoothie... This seemingly ordinary combination combined with the beautiful scenery of Haiban Pass gave it a special taste.
Of course, the beautiful beach in front of the restaurant was also incredibly beautiful. And the scene where the morning sunlight shines through the clouds and turns the entire mountain golden was truly amazing. If you visit here, be sure to enjoy breakfast at the top of the mountain!
Tips for traveling to Hai Van Pass recommended
Leave at sunrise. Even if you go to the top of the mountain by motorcycle, it takes a long time. Instead, you can enjoy the cool air of dawn. And I recommend coming down when the sun is up a little. That's why I went early. Be careful because it gets too hot when the sun rises and your skin can get burned. And don't forget to bring sunglasses. Even though I wore sunglasses, my eyes were so hot the next day. It can hurt your eyes to that extent. But it's hard to miss seeing this kind of scenery..!
I also recommend a motorcycle trip. You can stop and enjoy the scenery freely. The most important thing is that you can't walk up. It's really high!
Make sure to bring warm clothes. The top of the mountain can be colder than you expect.
A camera is a must! Take unforgettable moments.
Plan your route in advance. There are many hidden attractions around Hai Van Pass, so do some research in advance. There are valleys, beautiful waterfalls, and so many attractions!
